Sage 300 Bin Locations: A Simple Way to Know Where Every Item Lives

Knowing you have stock isn't the same as knowing where it is. Here's a simple, scan-based way to manage bin locations for Sage 300.

Sage 300 tells you how much of an item you have at each location. It doesn’t easily tell a picker which shelf to walk to. In a small warehouse people remember. As the catalogue grows, time goes into searching, and stock sitting in overflow gets forgotten.

What good bin management looks like

  • Every item has a known primary bin where it’s picked from.
  • Overflow (overstock) locations are recorded too, so extra stock isn’t lost.
  • Moving stock is fast enough that people actually record it.
  • Pickers see the bin at the moment they need it.

The problem with spreadsheets and labels alone

Many warehouses track bins in a spreadsheet or write them on shelf labels. Both drift out of date, because updating them means stopping work and walking to a PC. If recording a move takes longer than the move itself, it doesn’t get recorded.

How Metabox Inventory handles bin locations

Metabox Inventory makes recording a bin a two-scan job on the handheld already in your team’s hand.

  • Quick entry. Scan the item barcode, then scan the bin barcode. That’s it, and you can repeat straight away for the next item.
  • Full management. A location management screen lets you search for an item and add, edit or remove its bins.
  • Stock vs overstock. Mark which bin is the primary pick location and which are overflow, per location, so picking always starts in the right place.
  • One view. Search shows quantity, committed, on-PO and on-SO figures together with the bin location and an item photo.

Because Metabox works with Sage 300 directly, there’s no separate inventory database to reconcile.

Rolling it out

The easiest way to start is one aisle at a time: label the bins, then scan items into them as you pick or restock. Read more on the Metabox Inventory page, or book a demo.
